A strapless silk-chiffon evening gown that Princess Diana wore to the Cannes Film Festival and to the London opening of “Miss Saigon” in the late 1980s is up for sale on eBay.

This is the second time the pale-blue dress, with its exquisitely draped fabric, has hit the auction block: In 1997, just two months before her death in a Paris car crash a decade ago, Diana auctioned off 79 of her frocks at Christie’s to benefit charity.

The WE television network purchased four of the dresses, snagging this Catherine Walker number for less than $100,000.

WE TV general manager Kim Martin told the New York Daily News that the network would “love for the person who buys the dress to be somebody who recognizes all the great things that Princess Diana stood for,” and who will “keep Diana’s spirit alive.”

The winning bidder’s first concern, however, will be the state of his or her checkbook: The starting bid for the dress is $125,000. On the bright side, shipping is free.

Proceeds from the sale go to America’s Promise Alliance, a charity founded by Colin Powell to helping disadvantaged children stay in school.

The auction closes August 22. To view the listing, visit:
